Dementieva, Petrova advance at Eastbourne

EASTBOURNE, England (AP) — Top-seeded Elena Dementieva defeated Maria Kirilenko 6-2, 6-2 Monday at the Eastbourne Championships.

Nadia Petrova, the runner-up last year, won the last five games to defeat Ana Ivanovic 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Ivanovic broke twice in the final set to build a 4-1 lead before the seventh-seeded Russian rallied for the win.

Samantha Stosur, who reached the semifinals of the French Open, defeated Sabine Lisicki 6-2, 6-1. Virginie Razzano stopped Alize Cornet 7-6 (3), 6-2.

On the men's side, Sam Querrey of the United States defeated Paul Capdeville 6-2, 7-5.

Fourth-seeded Fabrice Santoro defeated American Robert Kendrick 6-3, 6-2, and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez topped Evgeny Korolev 6-2, 6-7, 6-2.

It's the first time the men have joined the women's traditional warm-up event for Wimbledon.
