"Today was a tough day for both of us because the wind kept changing direction," Tamarine said.

"It was a difficult match which could have gone either way."

The unseeded Tamarine, who also beat the Russian in last year's final, next faces Yanina Wickmayer of Belgium.

Wickmayer advanced with a 7-6 2-6 6-3 win over Italian Francesca Schiavone.

In the men's event, Dutch wild card entry Raemon Sluiter continued his impressive run as he defeated Spaniard Ivan Navarro 6-7 6-2 6-3 to reach Saturday's final.

"I still don't believe it," said Sluiter, who has returned to the tour from retirement. "Before the start of the tournament I thought I was in pretty good shape but I had no idea where I was on the ATP scale," Sluiter told RTL television.

Sluiter will meet Germany's Benjamin Becker, who beat countryman Rainer Schuettler 3-6 7-5 6-1.
